For example, Ethernet MAC transmitters and receivers can be designed in Verilog and deployed on FPGA boards to handle optical data links, supporting Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) or Gigabit Ethernet (1 Gbps) over fiber . Advanced designs for 10 Gbps links require careful clock management, serialization/deserialization, and error detection using CRC-16 or CRC-32 to maintain data integrity .Error Correction and Real-Time ControlTo ensure reliable transmission, FPGAs can integrate forward error correction (FEC), such as Bose–Chaudhuri–Hocquenghem (BCH) codes, which detect and correct bit errors in real-time. FPGA-based systems can monitor bit-error rates and fiber attenuation dynamically, allowing adaptive adjustments to maintain signal quality .
