Optical modules operating at 1291nm can be paired using complementary transceivers or OADM modules designed for single-fiber bi-directional communication.BiDi Transceiver PairingFor 100Gbps Ethernet applications, the TQ2021-BXXC-SO QSFP28 BiDi transceiver operates at 1291nm for transmission and 1311nm for reception over a single fiber. Pairing requires a complementary transceiver at the other end of the fiber, which transmits at 1311nm and receives at 1291nm. This ensures proper bi-directional communication without the need for separate fibers or optical filters. The module supports distances up to 20km over single-mode G.652 fiber and includes KP4 FEC for error correction, providing a bit error ratio better than 1 x 10^-12 when FEC is enabled (Smartoptics) .OADM Module PairingFor network designs using passive wavelength multiplexing, the 1291 OADM module allows adding or dropping a 1291nm wavelength on a single fiber. These modules are terminated with LC connectors and can be mounted in 1U or 3U panels. Pairing involves connecting the OADM module to the fiber path where the 1291nm signal is to be added or dropped. Two patch cords can provide one-directional add/drop, while four patch cords enable bi-directional operation. OADM modules are protocol- and bitrate-independent, making them compatible with various optical signals (Foss Fibre Optics) .Practical ConsiderationsWavelength Matching: Ensure that the transmit wavelength of one module matches the receive wavelength of the paired module (1291nm ↔ 1311nm for BiDi transceivers).Fiber Type: Use single-mode fiber (SMF) for distances up to 20km; multimode fiber is not suitable for these wavelengths.Connector Type: LC connectors are standard for these modules; ensure proper mating and low insertion loss.Distance and Loss Budget: Verify that the fiber link loss does not exceed the module's optical budget, especially when using OADM modules or long fiber runs.FEC Settings: For BiDi transceivers, enable FEC if required by the system to achieve the target BER.
