An OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) tests fiber optic cables by sending light pulses through the fiber and analyzing reflections to locate faults, measure loss, and verify installation quality.What an OTDR DoesAn OTDR injects high-powered light pulses into a fiber and measures the light that is reflected back from events such as connectors, splices, bends, or breaks. These reflections, called Fresnel reflections, along with backscattered light, allow the OTDR to determine the fiber's characteristics, including attenuation (loss) and the location of defects or splices ( ).
